prenatal Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started?Firstly, congratulations.
As everyone’s pregnancy journey is different, before you book in for a class please speak to your GP, obstetrician, or women’s health physio to decide whether exercise is best for you during this time. Once you have their approval to exercise, getting started is simple.
How do I know if exercise is right for me right now?In many cases, exercise during pregnancy can be really beneficial, but every pregnancy is different. We always recommend checking in with your GP, obstetrician, or women’s health physio before starting or continuing exercise. Once you have clearance from your medical professional, we can help modify movements to suit your stage of pregnancy and comfort level.
Our Prenatal Group Reformer classes are suitable for low-risk pregnancies only. If your pregnancy is considered high-risk, or you have been advised to exercise with caution, a women’s health physiotherapist or Clinical Pilates program would be better suited to provide you with appropriate individualised support.
Do I need to do anything different in class?Keep your instructors updated on how you’re feeling.
How do I prepare for a class? We recommend:
To be well hydrated and also bring a bottle of water to class.
Avoid exercising on an empty stomach.
Bring a pair of grip socks with you.
Wear light, comfortable clothing that allows free movement.
Is there anything I need to remember?Avoid painful movements and positions. If you are feeling pain stop exercising immediately and let your instructor know.
Listen to your body - if you experience dizziness, nausea, numbness, pins and needles or if any movement doesn’t feel right, stop and let your instructor know.
If your medical status, pregnancy symptoms, or healthcare advice changes at any stage during your pregnancy, please notify us prior to attending class, as exercise may no longer be suitable or modifications may be required.
Is there any further information you can provide?Yes, we recommend reading the following brochures before starting or resuming exercise during pregnancy:
